After a tough OT loss to Wake Forest of the ACC in their season opener Tulane got to .500 with an easy win in their last game. They crushed Nichols State 42-17 and while they were not playing a college football powerhouse they still put up 42 points. The Green Wave head into this non-conference road matchup with UAB as a 3.5-point favorite. The last time the Green Wave faced the Blazers it was at UAB in 2012 where the Wave won 55-45 in a barnburner.
After crushing a cream puff in their season opener with a 52-0 win over Savannah State UAB’s defense did not do so well in their last game giving up 47 points in a loss. The Blazers are a solid 7-0-1 ATS in their last eight home games, but they have a tough task in this game against Tulane, who put up 42 points in their last game.
Tulane was at home in their last game and they beat Nichols State 42-17 where they had a great ground attack. They had 458 total yards and 268 of them came on the ground. Corey Dauphine rushed for 152 yards on only six carries with a 69-yard gallop and Darius Bradwell rushed for 93 yards on 13 carries averaging a legit 7.2 yards per carry.
Jonathan Banks was 12 of 16 for 190 yards with a TD and no picks and Darnell Mooney had 11 receiving yards and hauled in the TD pass. Dauphine leads the team in rushing and while he had a big game in his last one he only rushed for 29 yards in the opening loss to Wake Forest.
The Tulane D did give up 415 yards in the easy win over Nichols State and also gave up over 500 total yards in the loss to Wake Forest. They have not looked good against the run and they have to shore up their run D facing UAB.
In their last game UAB was on the road where they lost to Coastal Carolina 47-24 where it would be an understatement saying they did not have the best 2nd half. At the half the Blazers were up 24-20, but were shut out in the 2nd half while giving up 27 points. They only had 28 fewer yards than Coastal Carolina and they rushed for 386 yards, but still lost by 23 points.
A.J. Erdely passed for 149 yards with no TD and a pick and also was the team’s 2nd leading rusher with 68 yards on the ground. Spencer Brown led the team with 94 rushing yards averaging 4.7 yards per carry and expect him to carry a heavy workload in this game.
UAB’s defense was bad in the 2nd half in the loss to Coastal Carolina and they have to shore up at home in this game or they will be under .500 taking a loss. They are not facing a dynamic offense in Tulane, but a pretty balanced one.
