Rutgers vs Kansas live
Date : Saturday, 15 September
Saturday afternoon on the college gridiron and the Big 10 conference will square off with the Big 12 conference as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights grapple with the Kansas Jayhawks. This contest will take place at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kansas. These teams last met back in 2015 and Rutgers won that game at home by a score of 27-14. Rutgers is off a 52-3 loss at Ohio State, while The Jayhawks broke a 46-game road losing streak with a 31-7 win over Central Michigan.
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have to be tired of seeing the Ohio State Buckeyes. Rutgers has been in the league for five years now and they are 0-5 against OSU and have been outscored 271-27 in this five games. Yikes. At least they got three points last week off of them after getting blanked the previous two seasons.
They lost the game by a score of 52-3 and were outgained 579-134. Lucky for them they are playing a team that is more their speed this week. Last year after losing 56-0 to OSU, they went on the road and knocked off Illinois. They will look to do the same in this one against Kansas.
The offense was just pitiful against the Buckeyes, but they will have a chance to get it going in this one against a much weaker defense. They do have seven starters back, but they do have a freshman at QB and he has not looked great so far. Arthur Sitkowski threw for just 38 yards against Ohio State and has just 243 yards with a TD and four INT in the early going so far.
Kansas has looked good on defense so far, so it will not be that easy. The defense has eight starters back and while they allowed 579 yards to Ohio State last week, they have a decent defense and should have a much better showing against a very weak Kansas offense. Rutgers has to not let the beating they took last week beat them this week as well as they do have a winnable game in front of them.
The Kansas Jayhawks have had just three wins in the last three years, but worse than that was the fact that they entered this season having lost their last 46 games on the road. Well, that streak is now over after they beat Central Michigan 31-7 on the road last week. It wasn’t a fluky win either as they outgained the Chippewas 361-280. The defense looked good, especially with four INTs.
That defense has 10 starters back from a group that allowed 43.4 ppg last year and they look much improved on that side of the ball. They will look to keep their solid defensive play going in this one against a Rutgers team that will not be that strong on offense this year. If their defense plays well, then they have a good shot of winning back-to-back games for the first time since 2011.
A big reason that they need to defense to step up is because their offense has not looked good at all so far. They have nine starters back on that side of the ball and had 361 yards against the Chippewas, but still, this is an offense that will struggle this year. That is not good news as they will be facing a Rutgers team that will have a good defense this year.
Yes, Rutgers was torched by Ohio State last week, but the offense they face this week is not nearly as good. Kansas ran for 216 yards against Central Michigan and leading the was Pooka Williams, who ran for 125 yards and two TDs. He could have a good game in this one as the weakest part of the Rutgers defense is their line.
